Fort Amsterdam at Abandze, Central Region of Ghana, is one of the oldest forts on the Gold Coast, built by the English in 1598 and later taken by the Dutch. It played a key role in the gold and slave trade before falling into ruin and being restored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, visitors can tour the fort, learn about Ghana’s colonial past, and reflect on the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
