The Kumasi Fort and Military Museum, located in the heart of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, is one of West Africa’s few military history museums. Built in 1820 by Asante King Osei Tutu Kwame and reconstructed by the British in 1896 after the Yaa Asantewaa War, the fort served as a stronghold during colonial rule.

Today, it houses military relics from World War I and II, Ghanaian UN peacekeeping missions, and local resistance battles. Visitors can explore historical weapons, aircraft, army vehicles, and uniforms that highlight Ghana’s and Africa’s contributions to global and regional military history.
